GARDEN SOLITAIRE

Garden experiments in formal neglect.

Garden Solitaire was an experimental landscape laboratory/outdoor studio of about one acre in Nottinghamshire. It began life as a formal garden but became a partially wooded site overtaken by trees and scrub, and then managed as liminal between garden and tree wilderness.

Many of the works at Garden Solitaire followed Eva Hesse's maxim: "How to make without making". Ideas concerning formal wilderness were first explored here, using trees and encompassing neglect, and the an-aesthetic of plastic furniture.
