THE SLIP 2003-2016

A clipped hornbeam (Carpinus betula) enclosed garden with three almost-closed slips’ restraining access, in the experimental plot: Garden Solitaire’. A ‘slip’ is the name given to the narrow openings cut into the hedge. Only one foot wide they require a turning sideways to ‘slip’ in and out of the garden–the experience giving rise to the pleasure of concealment passing through the cool hornbeam and on entering a ‘silent’ place.
